Waterboxx reforesting near Viladecans

15.02.2011

The 10th of February 2011, a delegation of TRANSFER in combination with the municipal authorities of Viladecans and Saint Boi de Llobregat, visited the area which is reserved for reforestation. This Project is subsidised by the Life+ programm of the European Commission that supports environmental innovation and nature conservation projects throughout the EU. To facilitate the development of new forests, Life+ will use the environmental innovation Groasis Waterboxx extensively in order to reforest 5 different Spanish arid climates, planting over 55.000 trees without using any additional irrigation systems.

The selected reserve, located near the community of Viladecans, is characterized by steep slopes and it has a rocky surface, which makes it difficult to regenerate naturally. Nevertheless, the invention of the Groasis Waterboxx makes it possible to reforest such difficult areas without constructing irrigation systems.

On the 10th of February 2011 a video was shot to show the roughness of the area where a new forest will arise.
