Recently, the French government announced to launch a second tender for offshore wind in March 2013 for the total amount of 1.000 MW. The offshore wind parks concerned by the tender will be built in the area around Tréport in Normandy and on the southern coastline of the Vendée. With this tender the Tréport project will receive a second chance, after being rejected by the government during the first round.

The new wind parks, consisting of about 200 wind mills, represent a total investment of € 3,5 bln. After the evaluation of the tender applications in the second half of 2013, the publication of the winning actors is expected for the beginning of 2014.

Together with the first tender of 1.928 MW awarded in April 2012 the total amount of foreseen offshore wind projects in France now attains almost 3 GW.

To reach this objective France will need to develop its competencies in the construction, logistics, exploitation and maintenance of wind parks. Since the country is lacking some experience in these fields, the expertise and knowledge of foreign companies are necessary and very welcome to make these projects successful.
