After the recent announcement of the French government to launch the 2nd offshore wind tender in April of this year, a 3rd one may follow as well according to the French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault.

The realization of a 3rd tender would give another important boost to this dynamic and promising French sector. The Prime Minister did this announcement during his visit to the region around Saint-Nazaire where one of the first offshore wind parks will be realized.

He initiated the construction of two turbine production plants of Alstom in the harbour of Saint Nazaire. The plants will assemble nacelles and produce alternators for about 240 wind mills which will be installed in several offshore wind farms on the western coastline of France. These production units of 2,5 ha are expected to be operational in 2014.

The winning consortia partners from the 1st tender are currently organizing the entire supply chain for the construction of almost 2 GW offshore wind parks. The consultation of as well local and foreign subcontractors provides long term business opportunities in France, especially with two more tenders in sight!
